Gate Architecture & Overview

An architectural overview of Gate, the deterministic policy and audit layer for AI agents.

Agents act. Gate decides.

Gate (gate.sonnev.com) is a dedicated policy, approval, and audit layer designed specifically for software agents that hold real-world permissions.

Core Purpose

As autonomous software agents transition from conversational chatbots to systems that make financial transactions, mutate production databases, or execute cloud infrastructure commands, probabilistic safeguards become insufficient.

Gate sits as a proxy between your agent orchestration runtime and the outside world, intercepting tool executions to evaluate deterministically defined policies before any external side effects occur.

Architectural Capabilities

1. Deterministic Policy Engine: Rules and budget ceilings evaluated strictly prior to execution. 2. Real-Time Human Approval: Multi-party cryptographic sign-off workflows for sensitive or high-capital operations. 3. Tamper-Evident Audit Chain: An append-only cryptographic hash chain logging intent, approval metadata, and execution outcome. 4. Latency-Neutral Gateway: Sub-millisecond pass-through on approved actions with zero perceptible overhead.

What Gate Is Not

  • - Not an orchestration framework: Gate does not manage your LLM prompts, chains, or agent loops. It only governs the tool executions they trigger.
  • Not a general prompt firewall: Gate evaluates structured tool calls and concrete external actions, not conversational chat tones.
